| Our Handsome Homeboys, DAWNLAND TABBY'S HALIFAX "E" (Rosasharn Tom's Water Tabby*S x Stonewall's India Wilkes) And the Assistant Goatkeeper. Halifax epitomizes the dairiness and conformation that we are striving for in our herd. And, he's more than just a "pretty face" too, as he continues to sire quality offspring. His first two freshened daughters have well-attached udders and several junior daughters have earned JrGCHs as well as accolades for their length of body and dairy character. We plan to pair Halifax with some of our nicest does for 2009 kids--check out our Kidding Schedule. Photo of Halifax at 3.5 Years. |

A FEW WORDS ABOUT OUR GUYS.....
REGARDING THE SALE OF BUCK KIDS.....FEW AND FAR BETWEEN.....Our bucks have been carefully chosen from well-known herds across the country. In our search for suitable sires that will pass on the dairiness and milk productivity which are our goals, we have selected bucks from parent lines showing ongoing CONSISTENCY in producing quality animals of strong conformation. We hope to see that same consistency in our goats as our breeding program evolves. However, because we are still a young herd and are just starting to see our daughters freshen--and, although we are very pleased with what we are seeing!--we plan to sell very few buck kids at this point in time.
SHOWING OUR BUCKS.....Admittedly, we feel that we have some real babes in our buck pen! However--both because of time constraints, and our belief that the best test of a herdsire is in his daughters' conformation, mammary systems, and milk production potential--we do not plan to show our bucks on a regular basis, though occasional trips to the ring won't be ruled out! We will campaign Dawnland Tabby's Halifax "E" in 2008; he's one leg away from his AGS MCH and we feel that both his genetics and excellent dairy conformation deserve record!
BREEDING SERVICES.....We do not offer breeding services.

ROSASHARN TOM'S WATER TABBY*S
We are most pleased with the quality of Tabby's progeny, in terms of mammaries, dairiness, and milk production, and have retained (or re-purchased!) many of his daughters.

Consistent with his name, which means a multi-coloured fabric, Water Tabby is a flashy black and rust buckskin heavily broken with white. He is a small and refined buck with a level topline and nicely angled rear legs. Tabby's front end shows excellent chest width and tight shoulders. He toes out slightly, but otherwise shows beautiful dairy conformation. Tabby is as sweet as he is handsome. He is always first at the gate for his obligatory scratching sessions and he still tries to sit in our laps!
We feel very fortunate to have Tabby as our primary herdsire, since he is one of the last two buck kids born to AGS National Champions Tom Thumb and Water Lilly. We have high hopes that Tabby will carry on the legacy of his two exceptional parents, and provide Dawn Land Farm with many beautiful and productive daughters.
PROGENY UPDATE: Tabby has been consistent in passing on capacious, widely-attached udders to his daughters. We are also seeing excellent milk production in these girls, most of whom have started their lactations at three+ pounds per day. Two of Tabby's 2003 daughters are on 305 Day Testing and qualified for their AR awards in 2005. Additionally, one of them earned an "E" scoring of her first freshening mammary system through ADGA linear appraisal. 2006--Another Tabby daughter on DHIR, a second freshening two year old, milked 4.1 pounds (5.6% butterfat) at 28 days fresh. Her second month's sampling weighed in at 4.8 pounds! AND, SHE COMPLETED HER 2006 LACTATION WITH 905 POUNDS OF MILK, AVERAGING 6.4% BUTTERFAT!
Tabby is also passing along his correct dairy refinement--see his AGS "E"-rated son, Halifax, presently standing as herdsire at Dragonfly Farm; his 2007 son, Rosasharn's WT B-Bo*S standing at Rosasharn Farm; or his daughters: Sashay, Danay, Morning Glory and Silver Fox, pictured below.

In the evolution of every herd there eventually is a special buck that by virtue of the quality and style of his progeny comes to define that herd. At Dawnland, we think of Sea as "our man". Initially, it took us a bit of time to appreciate what Sea was producing, but after surveying the general conformation of his grown kids--and seeing (and milking!) his first two udders--we were convinced. Not only has Sea has improved on the general conformation of EVERY doe to whom he has been bred, he is consistently producing a style of Nigerian that we love: long-bodied, very elegant animals with dairy character galore. His offspring are sharp and correct and possess gentle, friendly temperaments, all features of Sea himself.
We are not into showing bucks, especially since our goat transportation is a fairly new Honda Odyssey van! There's no question in our minds however that if Sea saw the ring, he would shine. He's very strong in both his conformation and dairy character and he also has an eye-catching way of strutting his stuff.

FLAT ROCKS GATORADE
Gator has been a "sleeper" in our buck pen for the past two seasons and
we are most pleased to note how nicely he has matured, showing all the
conformational qualities we want to see in our girls: a beautiful
dished face; excellent legs/feet: a tight front end and high withers;
with lots of angularity and sharpness overall. He's heavily linebred on
Gem--by Gem out of a daughter--so he's almost the real thing
genetically (!) and we hope Gator does as nice a job with consistent
quality mammaries as his sire did for years and years at Flat Rocks.

Gatorade is very dear to us. He arrived as a gift from Sunni at Flat Rocks, and to say that we are very touched by our "surprise" boy is simply too trite. This gift has hit our hearts hard in the nicest way. Gator is a sweet, handsome, bottle baby with an impeccable pedigree but, most significantly, he is out of our beloved Snicket's littermate sister. (The full story of Snicket is written on our Sales page but briefly, Snicket was a little buckling whose short time here left our family with indelible memories and life lessons.) Gator is doubly linebred on Flat Rocks Gem, son of MCH Flat Rocks Surprise*D: both he and his dam share Gem as a sire. There's also the Willows genetics that we so admire in his pedigree, with Gator's maternal granddam being HBF LS Sunflower, the twin sister to MCH Clementine at Twin Creeks. Gator has been a "sleeper" in our buck pen for the past two years and we are very eager to use him for 2009 kids. He is maturing into a long-bodied and very refined fellow, conformational traits we highly prize and hope to see passed on to his progeny. Since one of the defining strengths of the Flat Rocks herd lies in its longterm consistent use of select exceptional mammary lines, we expect that Gator will make gorgeous babies...so stay tuned!

ROSASHARN TL CURRY*S
We are really pleased with Curry's 2008 kid crop. Like his proven (and famous!) sire, ARMCH Rosasharn Tiger L++*S "E"++B, Curry has been extremely consistent in passing on tight front ends, length of body, refinement, dairy character, and LONG teats. We plan to use him heavily for 2009, pairing him with our more "powerful" does.

Curry is our beloved Rosasharn Tom's Water Tabby*S's "money in the bank" and his valuable genetics are most welcome. The product of an ARMCH Rosasharn Tiger L++*S "E" grandfather/granddaughter line breeding, by our calculations, Curry is 75% Tiger L/Water Lilly--a very good thing indeed! Tiger has been a pivotal sire at Rosasharn, improving the udders of every doe to whom he has been bred, and particularly excelling at producing high and wide rear udders.
Like most of the Rosasharn boys, Curry is starting out small, refined, and somewhat effeminate, and will probably require several years of maturation to reach his manly glory. That's OK with us, since we prefer to focus upon his future daughters' successes in filling up the milk pail and shining in the show ring.
