India is a rare doe, being a daughter of the renowned Stonewall's Raising Arizona++S. Although we are thrilled with that aspect of her pedigree, that's not the real reason we love her so much..Rather, it's her intelligence (she is the only goat thus far that has figured out how to escape the electric mesh) and her understated grace that have earned her a most favoured status at Dawn Land Farm. Appearance-wise, India is a petite and refined jet black doe with a beautiful mammary system that shows no signs of wear-and-tear after seven freshenings (and two sets of quads!). Her dairy character is prominent: a short, slick haircoat, the classic wedge shape to her body, her angularity and spring of ribs. India also shows impressive width in her chest and escutcheon.

We love to milk India. She has a soft and pliable udder with huge plumb teats. Her attachments and medial show no evidence of aging and her capacity is noteworthy. About the only thing we would critique udder-wise is a mild shelf in India's fore.

2009 BREEDING PLANS: India has remained open for the past few years. For 2009, we will probably pair her with Rosasharn GX Star Anise*S to bring in the production bloodlines of both ARMCH Uni and ARMCH Eclipse. Most likely, all kids will be retained.

DAWNLAND TABBY'S SILVER FOX (Rosasharn Tom's Water Tabby*S x Rosasharn's Bella Linda Lou)--DOB 5/07--will continue Linda's legacy in the Dawn Land herd. Linda as a Junior Doe (Click to Open Thumbnail)

Linda is the dancing doe who prompted our farm slogan. Her graceful capers as she bounded off the milkstand to rejoin her lady friends, kicking up her heels in pure "joie de vivre", stole our hearts!

Because she is so elegant, it has been a great disappointment to us that Linda has gone over the height limit and cannot be shown as a senior doe. Linda is truly beautiful: very sharp and dairy, with high withers and a long neck. She has great body capacity with widely-sprung ribs. Her haircoat is short and fine and her skin is as delicate as paper. Linda's udder, which milks down to nothing, is very nice with a pronounced medial, soft texture, and easily expressed plumb teats. She has a very wide area of attachment and a high rear. Her fore is smoothly blended and extended, but there is a small hollow.

Linda is a willing and productive milker, and her pedigree speaks volumes about her potential in the pail. Linda's sire's lines represent six generations of * milkers. Her dam, ARMCH Rosasharn's Baby Bella*D, was Anne Petersen's favorite doe, and an excellent producer. At the point of her untimely death at age nine, Bella had a M.E. of over 1300 pounds! Additionally, Linda's twin sister, ARMCH Bella's Bonnie Too 2*D, milked over 800 pounds in 283 days as a two year old. Linda, herself, consistently milked four+ pounds daily during her 2005 lactation (our barn records over five months), after the delivery of sextuplets!

2009 BREEDING PLANS: Linda remained open for 2008 and future breeding plans have not been determined. She's still nursing her yearling daughter, so longetivity of lactation is certainly present!

Up-To-Date Udder Photos (Hopefully) Will Be Added in 2009, since Boots remained open for 2008.

Boots is irreplaceable for many reasons, including our affection for how she rules the roost in her dotage. We consider her to be our most valuable brood doe as she ages with grace and consistently produces kids better than herself. Being the progeny of some of the lates and greats of the ND world, Boots has some very notable genetics behind her. She is a Brave Heart daughter (Inavale All That Jazz x MCH Raha Acres Twink's Pixie*D "E") and her maternal grandparents (MCH Piddlin Acres Blue Thunder++*S "VG" x MCH Piddlin Acres Doe 'C' Doe "E") represent two of the nicest animals bred by Piddlin Acres.

A petite doe, Boots shows great dairy character. She is long-bodied with flat ribbing and loose dairy skin. Smoothly blended throughout, she has good width--both front and back. In the tradition of her female forebears, Boots has a beautiful udder which is softly textured, securely attached, and easily milked. Her teats are large and well-placed, but do point forward. Boots is also a productive doe for her size and we can never figure out where she hides all that milk! Her progeny are showing excellent mammary and production potential too. She has two 2003 daughters (sired by Rosasharn Tom's Water Tabby*S) who qualified for their AR status in 2005. And, one of these daughters had her first freshening mammary system classified as "Excellent" during an ADGA linear appraisal. A 2005 daughter (sired by Twin Creeks Sudden Sea*S) has freshened in 2007 with a beautifully capacious, very widely-attached udder that is soft and collapsible. As a first freshener, Boots' Sassy won first in her class/best udder too--at only three weeks fresh with a single kid--over nine other seniors.

2009 BREEDING PLANS: Boots has remained open for several years but we are hoping to see her bred in 2009. Service sire to be TX Twincreeks CAS Patronus*S for a crossing of Texas lines--linebreeding on Twink's Pixie and Doe 'C' Doe--while picking up some nice genetics from other quality animals including MCH Weisbaden+*S and the inimitable Nonnie.

DAWNLAND TABBY'S SASHAY

Third Freshening Udder: Beautiful Laterals and Medial, a Smooth Fore, High in the Rear and Easily Milked--This is one mammary that's not going to drag on the ground nor flap in the breeze! (Photos Courtesy of Cheryle Moore-Smith)

WE ARE LIKEWISE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT SASHAY'S LITTERMATE SISTER, ZING, WILL BE RETURNING HOME AT THE COMPLETION OF HER 2008 LACTATION--2009 PLANNED BREEDING TO FAIRLEA JAMIE FRASER. Zing has lived with Lisa Reilich and her family at the Painted Pepper Farm, the country's first all-Nigerian goat dairy, since 2005. During that time, she has earned *D, *M, her AR, and had her first freshening udder ADGA linear appraised "E"! She also has a daughter with a similar quality udder and production of four pounds per day as a first freshener... So, we anticipate great mammary and milk potential with our homebred lady and her daughters to come!
Thanks so much, Lisa, for the opportunity to add another Tabby daughter back into the fold.

Just everyone loves Sashay, who is the major goatkeeper's "feel good" goat, so affable and relaxed with life in general that she brings joy to all she meets, humans and goats alike! Her personality is a nice plus for all the other strengths Sashay brings to the Dawn Land herd, most especially those of her mammary system. Sashay's udder is the highest and tightest here and, although she doesn't have the capacity or production of her paternal half-sister Jane, her attachments and ease of milking are exceptional. That we love Sashay's udder so much is not surprising considering that her genetics represent a very successful outcross breeding of two exceptional mammary lines going back to some of the best animals in New England (Rosasharn) and Texas (Twin Creeks and Piddlin Acres.) The consistent quality resulting from Sashay's breeding is also seen in her littermate sisters: both have freshened with well-attached mammaries and earned their AR's. Additionally, one of the sisters also had her first freshening udder ADGA-appraised as "Excellent"!

2009 BREEDING PLANS:
Sashay will be bred to Piddlin Acres PM Bootstraps, a match which loosely picks up many shared quality ancestors: Gay-Mor's RA Kingwood++*S, MCH Piddlin Acres Doe 'C' Doe*D "E", and MCH/PGCH Raha Acres Twink's Pixie*D "E" through her grandson MCH Twin Creeks BH Bay Watch++*S "E". Great mammary AND milk potential here!

2008--Single Buck (Rosasharn TL Galaxy*S++B)

Wasabi joined our herd in the spring of 2008 after years of gentle persuasion. We consider ourselves very lucky to have been able to purchase her, since the deciding factor that worked in our favour was Wasabi's propensity to have single kids (and thus not carry the astronomically high milk numbers of her heavier producing herdmates at Rosasharn.) She's no slouch in the milk pail however, having earned her AR--last milking 584# in 186 days in 2007--and she is also a milker's dream on the stand: showing a calm, dairy temperament, a well-attached mammary with soft texture, and heavenly long, plumb teats. Wasabi has also proven her value by the quality of her offspring here: we have two sons, one by Tiger L who is siring gorgeous kids, and a baby by Galaxy, who looks to be a future show prospect. And, hopefully, we will see a little doeling in 2009 to further carry on the legacy!

2009 BREEDING PLANS: Wasabi will be paired with Fairlea Jamie Fraser for linebreedings based on ARMCH Goodwood Tom Thumb+*S "E" and ARMCH Rosasharn's Tiger L++*S ++B "E"--with the addition of MCH Flat Rocks Surprise*S genetics as icing on the cake. We are expecting strong conformation, dairy character, and milk from this breeding. Of course, since Wasabi is so stingy with kids, ALL doe kids will be retained.

KIDDING HISTORY
2006--Single Buck (Dawnland Sea's Lord of the Dance)
2007--Twin Does (Fairlea Arsene Lupin*S)

Princess has matured very nicely. She shows good dairy character with strong bone, a long, level body, and width across the chest and from thurl to thurl. Princess's first freshening udder in 2006 really impressed us with its very wide area of attachment, capacity, and LONG teats--all around beautiful! She was easily-milked, very productive, and her udder collapsed down to nothing when emptied. Princess's second udder was just as nice, but because of delivery complications and uneveness from a single kid nursing, we did not milk or show her in 2007. Nevertheless, we consider Princess to be one of our most promising seniors and we look forward to bringing her into the ring in 2009 (she remained open in 2008.)

2009 BREEDING PLANS: Service sire to be Fairlea Jamie Fraser, a loose linebreeding on Kingwood++*S. We are hoping that Jamie will pass on his tight front end and mammary potential to a doe with an already lovely mammary and lots of dairy character.

KIDDING HISTORY
2005--Twins: Doe/Buck

We are quite happy to have this pretty doe join our herd--many thanks to Mary Jordan and her boys for sending their special girl to us! Rosie is a petite doe, with excellent general conformation and lots of dairy character. She stands on strong feet/legs, has good width in the chest and escutcheon as well as from thurl to thurl, AND....her first freshening 2005 udder had some very positive qualities, including a wide area of attachment, a strong medial, and big, well-placed teats. Rosie's former owner was very pleased with her mammary system, especially its capacity and collapsibility, and reported that she was an easy and productive milker. However, Rosie's little doeling did not like to share the milk, so we will have to wait until her next freshening to more fully assess that production.

2009 BREEDING PLANS:
Rosie has proven reluctant to settle for several years. We will try again for 2009 kids; service sire to be Dawnland Tabby's Halifax "E". Halifax has been consistently producing long-bodied, very dairy, correct, show-winning daughters...we hope for a repeat with Rosie!

LOST VALLEY KW MORGAN 4*D "VG" (88.7)

Morgan at Age Three, Three Weeks Second Fresh, Not Bagged.
Morgan's excellent general conformation earned her a junior leg in the competitive Texas show ring; we hope for further successes when she is shown as a senior.
Many thanks to the Kowaliks for sending this lovely doe to New England!

ADDENDUM: We are contemplating great milk potential too. In 2006, as a first-freshening two year old, Morgan earned her 4*D by milking 3.1 pounds of 5.4% butterfat at 92 days fresh, tying her for the #8 spot in the 2006 AGS Top Ten for Milk Protein. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, Morgan was not consistently milked for her second freshening. We are looking for her to "excel in the pail" in 2008 when she freshens again!

With her wealth of show and milk genetics--she carries Lost Valley's high-milking Hill Country's Shatarr 2*D line through her dam, Treasure--Morgan is a real asset to our breeding program. Consistent with both sides of her pedigree, she is a correct, powerful milking machine with a widely-attached productive udder that shows a strong medial and a well-extended fore. Although Morgan possesses significant body capacity and width, she is not a coarse doe. Rather, Morgan is distinguished by a tremendous degree of dairy character, something noted by Judge Keith Harrell at her last show of the 2007 season. We certainly appreciate the combination of power and refinement we see in this beautiful senior and we look forward to an even nicer mammary in 2008!

2009 BREEDING PLANS: Service sire to be Twin Creeks BW Sudden Sea*S for a loose linebreeding on Bay Watch++*S genetics. We are hoping that Sea will pass on his usual: large teats and a soft, capacious udder, as well as his very correct conformational strengths--most especially his tight front end and rear leg angulation.

KIDDING HISTORY
2007--Single Buckling (NC PromisedLand HS Tiger's Eye)
2008--Twin Does (NC PromisedLand HS Tiger's Eye)

SHOWING
1st x 2 (Judges Scott Horner and Keith Harrell); Best Udder x 1 (Scott Horner)--2007 First Freshening

Sassy is a totally spoiled bottle baby and the absolute favorite of the assistant goatkeeper here, who claims proprietary interest since he dried her off at birth and was responsible for her first feeding! Sassy is maturing into a doe with marked dairy character, very typical of our Sea progeny thus far. She has very loose, fine skin; flat, well-spaced ribs; and a long bone pattern. We really like her topline, tight shoulders, and rear angulation. And, like all Sea daughters, she also has well-placed, long teats. Sassy certainly has a lot to live up to, given the "Solid Gold" pedigree she carries, and we are most pleased to see that she showed a first freshening (2007) udder worthy of her genetics: buttery soft, socked-on, and very easily milked with "handful" teats. We are likewise pleased to announce that Sassy, in her second show as a first freshening senior--at three weeks fresh and with one kid--earned first place honours and "Best Udder" awards over eight other does in her class (Judge Scott Horner.) As a second freshener, Sassy is maintaining her milk production between three and 3.5 pounds daily at a month fresh and remains a joy to milk.

2009 BREEDING PLANS:
Sassy will be bred to TX Twincreeks CAS Patronus*S, picking up many common ancestors while adding the quality genetics of MCH Weisbaden and MCH/GCH Nonnie to the mix. We expect excellence in both production and attachments from this breeding.
